Eternal Sky Village

Eternal Sky Village
Time Period : 16th century
Location : China
Story Concept :
Hidden away from the frequently dwelled towns, the Eternal sky village is only accessible through weeks of hiking up the 9 thousand metres tall Mountain. The Eternal Sky village is known to be a place that is free of pain , hate , disease and suffering . The village is high above ground level, with cloudy atmostphere, with rocky and greenish terrian. The sky colour is usually pink and fantasy like, representing how carefree and "in-heaven" the people there are . Only the most determined , persistent few would reach the top but on the way up the people are tested physically and mentally. Mentally ,the journey up will reveal their darkest secrets , all their pain and sufferings or even the deeds they have done , good and bad. Physically, they would need to endure the difficulty in climbing for weeks, the change in temperature , altitude as well as environment. If they have bad intentions on finding the Sky village, there will be an invisible barrier preventing them from venturing closer. Those who failed in their journey claimed that Eternal Sky Village does not exist and it's just a myth , however some others never returned.
Nobody truly knows if they did made it to the Eternal Sky Village or died.

Overall :
For this assignment, we had the choice to choose whether we wanted to use the given 3D geometries and FG & MG elements but include our own BG and mood or do everything from scratch(but we have more freedom to come up with the look of the painting in whichever style we wanted). I went with the creating everything from scratch choice ... However it was quite challenging to complete the painting as i seldom do environment paintings also kind of had some technical errors when i bring in the 3D geometries from maya and it doesn't align well with the 2D projected image i painted. Ended up separating the 3D parts to re-align them and somewhat looks better than before .
My story's time period was kind of inspired by Journey to the West, a Chinese novel published in the 16th century during the Ming dynasty but more from the live action movies..
